Mobile Buildings

BBC reports that there will soon be a building where each floor can be independently rotated in response to voice commands from the inhabitants. It takes about 1-3 hours to do a full 360 degree turn, so I suppose people inside can go through their days without feeling queasy every time a family member feels restless.

The next, somewhat geeky but cool, thing to do (giving building automation a whole new dimension) would be this: observe what people are doing with this capability over time, model their actions in response to relevant features – sunlight/shade as required, view of the skyline in the early evenings and best view of the stars at night, etc. – and make it autonomous. That has to impress guests at parties!

I hope I get to visit something like this one day…
